about

HBML is a junk shoppe or possibly a gallery, kind of a boutique, but mostly a town dump, in Worcester Massachusetts, USA.
We sell used clothing and books and toys and games and knick knacks, also doo-dads, gee-gaws, gimcracks, bric-a-brac, gizmos and souvenirs. Also noise cassettes, indie pop cds, homemade comic books, silk screened psychedelic posters, altered and hand-made clothing, totally wrong stuffed animals, toys that have been through a crystal stomach, designer fragrances, witch drugs (strictly for witches, not appreciable by people) and other such fare.
We have a gallery with a new opening every 3 weeks, and various other events, with the aim of one a week. the best way to be kept up to date is via our email list, which is roughly weekly, and you can get on and offf of by emailing:

“HBML” stands for Hermes, Barnum, Monkey, Legba. Hermes is the Olympian god of boundaries and of the travelers who cross them, of shepherds and cowherds, of thieves and road travelers, of orators and wit, of literature and poets, of athletics, of weights and measures, of invention, of general commerce, and of the cunning of thieves and liars[2]. Barnum was an American huckster, showman, and circus pioneer of the 19th century. Monkey is a general mythological trope, really pretty self-explanatory. Legba is another facet of the intermediary and trickster.
The store was started in June of 2006 for no appreciable reason. We raised the money for first and last months’ rent (less than a current video game system and a semi-nice TV), and planned on not making any money and closing almost immediately, but that was over two years ago now, so joke’s on us [again / still].
